Welcome to Prep at Haigslea State School
Prep is an exciting time for you and your child. Prep is the first year of schooling and is a fulltime compulsory program, from Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 3.00pm.
The early years of learning are among the most significant periods of growth for children. Experiences during this time not only affect cognitive, social and physical development, but also deeply influence dispositions to learning and children's views of themselves as learners.
At Haigslea State School the Prep program is designed to cater for each child's interests and needs and to foster a love of learning.
We recommend you view the supporting information – Prep Handbook. For detailed information on enrolling your child in Prep, please see enrolling at our school.
The Education (General Provisions) Regulation 2006 enables principals to consider
early entry to Prep for children who turn five years by 31 July.
It should be emphasised that:
- The standard Prep entry cut-off date remains 30 June in the year a child enters Prep
- A quality kindergarten program in the year before Prep is the best education option for all children
- Early entry for July-born children should be by exception only, where it is in the
best interests of the child.
Parent Information Evening for Prep
Each year families enrolling their children in Haigslea State School for Prep are invited to attend our
Prep Information evening. This session is for parents only and will consist of information from our Principal and our Prep Teachers.
Orientation Days for Prep
Prep Orientation days give our new students a chance to meet their teacher and some of the other students who will be in their class the following year. We are asking all parents and students to meet at the classroom. While the Prep students are in their classrooms we ask that parents meet in the school library where there will be staff presentations to help assist parents for their child's transition into school.
